Itinerary

Day 01:

Bangkok/Delhi/Kathmandu – Paro (2,280m)

Your journey begins with a scenic flight into Paro, regarded as one of the most dramatic landings in the Himalayas. On clear days, enjoy views of snow-capped peaks including Mt. Everest. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred for refreshments before beginning sightseeing in Paro Valley.

Visit the National Museum (Ta Dzong), housing Bhutanese art and historical artifacts, followed by Rinpung Dzong, an impressive 17th-century fortress serving both religious and administrative functions. Later, transfer to your hotel and relax.

Day 02:

Paro – Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest 3,120m) – Drugyel Dzong & Kyichu Lhakhang

After breakfast, drive approximately 30 minutes to the base of Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched dramatically on a cliffside above Paro Valley. The hike takes 4–5 hours round trip and winds through dense pine forests, colorful prayer flags, and serene meditation spots.

Along the trail, trekkers enjoy breathtaking views of the valley and surrounding cliffs, with plenty of opportunities for photography. Taktsang is revered as the meditation site of Guru Padmasambhava in the 8th century, offering a deeply spiritual experience. After descending, enjoy lunch before visiting the historic ruins of Drugyel Dzong, where you can admire Mount Jomolhari (weather permitting) and learn about Bhutan’s rich history. Conclude the day at Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, known for its tranquility and intricate architecture.

Day 03:

Paro – Gunitsawa – Sharna Zampa – Thangthangkha (3,610m)

Distance: 18–20 km | Duration: 6–7 hours | Camp Altitude: 3,610m

After breakfast, drive about one hour to Gunitsawa Village (2,800m), where the trek begins at Sharna Zampa. The trail follows the sparkling Paro Chhu River, passing traditional Bhutanese villages, small farms, and lush pine and rhododendron forests. The gradual ascent offers scenic views of the upper Paro Valley and surrounding hills, and along the way, you may see local farmers tending their fields or herders with yaks. After trekking 18–20 km over 6–7 hours, arrive at Thangthangkha, a quiet campsite beneath alpine peaks. The evening is perfect for relaxing, enjoying a hot meal, and taking in the dramatic mountain vistas.

Day 04:

Thangthangkha – Jangothang (4,040m)

Distance: 19 km | Duration: 5–6 hours | Ascent: 430m

From Thangthangkha, the trek continues gradually through alpine meadows, yak grazing areas, and gentle streams. As you gain altitude, the majestic peaks of Mount Jomolhari and Jichu Drake dominate the horizon, providing breathtaking views and excellent photography opportunities. The trail covers 19 km over 5–6 hours with an ascent of 430 meters, offering a combination of gentle climbs and scenic viewpoints. Arrive at Jangothang (4,040m), a picturesque base camp surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks and yak herder settlements. Settle in, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the optional acclimatization hikes the next day.

Day 05:

Jangothang (Acclimatization Day – 4,040m)

Distance/Duration/Altitude: Rest day | Optional hikes up to 4,100m

Today is dedicated to acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust to the high altitude. Optional hikes can take you to nearby areas around Jomolhari Base, reaching approximately 4,100 meters, with panoramic views of glacial valleys and surrounding peaks. The area is also excellent for spotting blue sheep, marmots, and Himalayan birds, offering rewarding wildlife experiences. Enjoy the serenity of the campsite, take short walks in the meadows, or simply relax and soak in the Himalayan scenery.

Day 06:

Jangothang – Thangthangkha (3,610m)

Distance: 19 km | Duration: 5–6 hours | Descent: 430m

Begin the descent retracing your route along the Paro Chhu River valley, moving through alpine meadows, yak grazing lands, and forested slopes. The 19 km trek over 5–6 hours with a descent of 430 meters allows a more relaxed pace, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the changing perspectives of the mountains and valleys. Arrive at Thangthangkha campsite for a restful evening, enjoy hot meals, and savor the tranquility of the upper valley.

Day 07:

Thangthangkha – Sharna Zampa – Paro

Distance: 18–20 km | Duration: 5–6 hours | Drive: 1 hour

Descend through lush forests and river valleys to Sharna Zampa, marking the end of your trekking journey. From here, drive about one hour back to Paro, where you can enjoy the comfort of your hotel. The trekking distance for the day is 18–20 km over 5–6 hours, mostly downhill, providing a gentle conclusion to the trek. In the evening, explore Paro town, shop for local handicrafts, or simply relax and reflect on your journey.

Day 08:

Paro – Departure

After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward flight. Depart Bhutan with unforgettable memories of snow-capped peaks, serene valleys, traditional villages, and the spiritual essence of the Himalayas, carrying with you an authentic Himalayan trekking experience.
