Arrival in Paro (2,280 m) – Paro Sightseeing

Arrive at Paro International Airport, famous for its dramatic Himalayan approach and landing. On a clear day, marvel at peaks such as Mount Jomolhari and Mount Jichu Drake. Upon arrival, meet your guide and enjoy light refreshments before starting your sightseeing. Visit Ta Dzong, a former watchtower now home to the National Museum of Bhutan, showcasing traditional art, weaponry, and historical artifacts. Continue to Rinpung Dzong, a 17th-century fortress that serves both religious and administrative functions, featuring ornate architecture, grand courtyards, and intricate murals. Paro – Bumthang (Domestic Flight: 35–39 minutes) – Bumthang Sightseeing (2,600 m)

Upon arrival, begin your cultural exploration with Kurjey Lhakhang, built around the rock bearing Guru Rinpoche’s body imprint, a major pilgrimage site surrounded by serene gardens. Jambay Lhakhang Festival

After breakfast at your guesthouse in Bumthang, immerse yourself in the vibrant Jambay Lhakhang Festival, one of Bhutan’s most mystical celebrations. The day begins with devotees gathering at the temple grounds, offering flowers, rice, and butter lamps to seek blessings. Witness the Ter Cham (Naked Dance), where sixteen men perform symbolic movements to purify the land and drive away evil spirits, followed by the dramatic Fire Blessing Dance (Mecham), where devotees walk through flames for spiritual cleansing.

Throughout the day, monks perform masked Cham dances in elaborate costumes, each telling stories from Buddhist texts or historical events, accompanied by music, chants, and drumming. Take time to explore the temple’s intricate murals, carvings, and sacred statues while your guide explains the significance of each ritual and performance. Capture the

Bumthang – Gangtey (Drive approx. 7–8 hours)

Drive from Bumthang to Gangtey, a scenic journey through Bhutan’s stunning mountain landscapes. As you wind along the roads, enjoy panoramic views of terraced valleys, lush forests, and distant snow-capped peaks. Along the way, stop at Chendebji Chorten, a 17th-century stupa built in the style of Nepal’s iconic Boudhanath Stupa. This serene monument, surrounded by prayer flags fluttering in the wind, is perfect for photographs and offers a peaceful spot to stretch your legs and enjoy a lunch break.

Continuing onward, descend into the tranquil Phobjikha Valley, renowned for its natural beauty and spiritual ambiance. This glacial valley is the winter home of the endangered Black-Necked Cranes, which migrate from Tibet, creating a unique opportunity for wildlife observation and photography. The valley is dotted with traditional farmhouses, prayer flags, and small streams, offering a glimpse into the harmonious lifestyle of local communities. Gangtey – Punakha

After breakfast, visit Gangtey Monastery, a historic Nyingma monastery perched on a hilltop with sweeping views of the Phobjikha Valley. Explore its serene courtyards, prayer halls, and intricate murals while learning about its spiritual significance and the monastic life of the resident monks. Continue to the Black-Necked Crane Center, a conservation site dedicated to protecting these endangered birds that migrate from Tibet each winter. Observe the cranes in their natural habitat and gain insight into the local conservation efforts and the valley’s unique ecosystem.

After lunch, drive to the fertile Punakha Valley, known for its lush rice fields, scenic rivers, and traditional villages. Stop at Chimi Lhakhang, the Fertility Temple, famous for its phallic paintings and blessings that couples and families seek for fertility and good fortune. 06:

Punakha – Thimphu – Paro

Start the day with a visit to Punakha Dzong, the majestic fortress perched at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (male) and Mo Chhu (female) rivers. Explore its grand courtyards, intricate woodwork, and vibrant murals, and walk across the famous suspension bridge for

breathtaking river views. On the way back to Thimphu, stop at Dochula Pass to take in panoramic Himalayan vistas and visit the 108 memorial stupas, built in honor of Bhutanese soldiers. Continue to Simply Bhutan, a living museum showcasing traditional crafts, and then visit the Memorial Chorten and Buddha Dordenma, the massive bronze Buddha overlooking the valley. Paro – Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest, 3,120 m) – Kyichu & Paro Town

Hike to Taktsang Monastery, perched 900 meters above Paro Valley. The trail winds through pine forests, waterfalls, prayer flags, and meditation caves. At the monastery, soak in its spiritual atmosphere and cliffside architecture. Descend and visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, built in the 7th century. Conclude with a leisurely stroll through Paro town, exploring markets, handicrafts, and local experiences. Overnight at the Hotel in Paro.

Departure from Paro
