Itinerary

Day 01:

Arrival in Paro – Transfer to Thimphu (2,320 m)

  • Arrive at Paro International Airport, enjoying breathtaking aerial views of Himalayan peaks including Everest, Jomolhari, and Jichu Drake as your flight descends into the serene Paro Valley. Upon arrival, you are warmly welcomed by your Bhutanese guide and begin your journey with a scenic drive to Thimphu, passing traditional farmhouses, prayer flags, and river valleys. In Thimphu, visit the sacred Memorial Chorten, where elderly Bhutanese gather daily to chant mantras and spin prayer wheels, offering your first glimpse into the country’s deeply rooted spiritual life. Continue to Buddha Dordenma, a towering golden statue overlooking the valley, where you can quietly reflect while enjoying panoramic views.
  • Later, explore Tashichho Dzong, the grand fortress-monastery that houses the throne room of His Majesty the King and central monastic body. Day 02:

Thimphu – Punakha (1,300 m) | Homestay Experience

  • After breakfast, visit Simply Bhutan, an interactive living museum that introduces traditional Bhutanese architecture, cooking methods, rural lifestyle, and local customs. Engage with hosts, taste local snacks, and learn about the cultural values that shape everyday life. Later, drive across the scenic Dochula Pass, where 108 Druk Wangyel Chortens stand against the Himalayan backdrop. On clear days, enjoy sweeping mountain views before descending into the fertile Punakha Valley. En route, participate in a Hoisting Lungdar, where you raise colorful prayer flags inscribed with sacred mantras for blessings, health, and harmony.
  • Upon reaching Punakha, visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, beautifully located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Take a peaceful hike through rice paddies and villages to Chimi Lhakhang, associated with Lam Drukpa Kuenley.In the evening, immerse yourself in rural Bhutanese life with an overnight farmhouse homestay. Day 03:

Experience Local Punakha

  • After breakfast with your host family, spend the day engaging closely with the local community while exploring the peaceful countryside of Punakha Valley. Begin with a hands-on cooking session where you will learn to prepare traditional Bhutanese dishes such as Ema Datshi (Chilli Cheese Curry) and Kewa Datshi (Potato Cheese Curry) using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. This experience offers insight into Bhutan’s love for simple, hearty meals and the importance of food in family life. Later, participate in Bhutan’s national sport of archery, where friendly competitions are filled with songs, laughter, playful teasing, and lively celebration. Try traditional village games such as archery, Khuru (darts) and Degor (stone throwing), often played during local gatherings and seasonal festivals. Depending on the time of year, you may also join farmers in rice planting or harvesting, gaining a meaningful hands-on understanding of Bhutan’s agricultural traditions.
  • Enjoy leisurely village walks along the Pho Chhu River, observing daily rural life, traditional farmhouses, and the calm rhythm of the valley. In the evening, gather for a special Highland Folk Song & Storytelling Night, where locals share traditional songs, legends, and stories passed down through generations. Day 04:

Punakha – Paro (2,280 m) | Sand Mandala Experience

  • After breakfast, drive back to Paro, once again crossing Dochula Pass and enjoying scenic Himalayan views. Upon arrival, visit Paro Rinpung Dzong, an architectural masterpiece that reflects Bhutan’s spiritual heritage. Continue to Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples. In the afternoon, participate in a sand mandala or Thangka painting session guided by master artists. Learn about sacred symbolism, precise geometry, and the patience and meditation required to create these spiritual artworks. Overnight at a hotel in Paro.
Day 05:

Taktsang Day Excursion (3,120 m) | Hot Stone Bath

  • After an early breakfast, begin your hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliff 1,000 meters above the valley. The trail winds through pine forests decorated with prayer flags, creating a serene atmosphere of devotion. At the monastery, learn about Guru Padmasambhava’s meditation here in the 8th century and observe pilgrims offering prayers. Take time for quiet reflection before descending. In the evening, unwind with a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath (Dotsho), where heated river stones are placed into herbal-infused water to soothe muscles and restore energy, a cherished Bhutanese wellness tradition. Overnight stay at a hotel in Paro.
Day 06:

Departure

  • After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward flight.
