Itinerary

Day 01:

Arrival in Paro (2,280 m)

Your journey begins with a spectacular flight into Paro, regarded as one of the most dramatic landings in the world. As the aircraft approaches Bhutan, you will fly parallel to the mighty Himalayas, offering breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks including Mt. Everest (weather permitting).Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide and escorted to a nearby restaurant for refreshments, allowing you to relax and rejuvenate after your flight. After the break, begin exploring the scenic Paro Valley, starting with the National Museum (Ta Dzong), a former watchtower that houses a fascinating collection of Bhutanese art, cultural relics, and historical artifacts. Once the sightseeing is completed, you will proceed to your hotel for check-in, where you can unwind and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, soaking in the serene atmosphere of the valley.

Day 02:

Paro – Thimphu Biking (65 km / approx. 5 hrs, 2,280 m → 2,320 m)

Begin your cycling adventure along the Paro Chhu River, covering 65 km from Paro to Thimphu in about 5 hours. The route winds through scenic stretches lined with willows and poplars, terraced rice fields, and traditional Bhutanese farmhouses. Stop at a local restaurant along the way to hydrate, relax, and capture photos of the surrounding mountains and villages. As you approach Thimphu, the valley widens, revealing the capital’s unique blend of modern infrastructure and rich culture. Visit Changyul Park, a riverside green space created to offer locals and visitors a peaceful spot for relaxation and leisure, followed by the Memorial Chorten, built in memory of His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the Third King, to observe local spiritual traditions. End the day with a leisurely walk through Thimphu town, exploring handicrafts, boutiques, and cafés.

Day 03:

Thimphu – Punakha (71 km / 5–6 hrs, 2,320 m → 1,300 m via Dochula Pass 3,100 m)

After morning sightseeing including Buddha Point and Simply Bhutan in Thimphu, drive approximately 45 minutes to Dochula Pass (3,100 m). Here, 108 Druk Wangyel Chortens stand against the Eastern Himalayas, offering panoramic views of snow-capped peaks. From Dochula, begin your cycling journey of about 71 km to Punakha, which takes roughly 5–6 hours depending on your pace. Along the way, enjoy the scenic valley views and peaceful rural landscapes.

Day 04:

Punakha – Phobjikha (Gangtey) Valley Biking (83 km / 5–6 hrs, 1,300 m → 2,900 m)

In the morning, visit Punakha Dzong, located at the confluence of the Pho and Mo Rivers, and the Chimmi Lhakhang, a charming fertility temple known for its vibrant traditions. After sightseeing, enjoy a beautiful drive toward Phobjikha Valley, which takes approximately 3–4 hours from Punakha up to Lawa La Pass (3,349 m) while enjoying the scenic views of fertile villages, terraced rice fields, and forested hills along the way. Upon reaching Lawa La, begin your cycling descent down into the high-altitude Phobjikha Valley at around 2,900 m. Phobjikha is famous for the endangered black-necked cranes that migrate here during winter.

Day 05:

Phobjikha – Paro (205 km / partial ride + support vehicle, 2,900 m → 2,280 m)

After a morning visit to Gangtey Monastery and Crane Centre, begin your journey back towards Paro. The total distance is approximately 205 km, and cyclists can ride selected scenic stretches while the backup vehicle supports steeper climbs and longer sections. The route winds down from Phobjikha through beautiful mountain roads, passing rural villages and forested hills as you descend toward Wangdue Phodrang and continue onward to Thimphu. Along the way, stop for refreshments and short breaks to rest, hydrate, and enjoy the views.Pause at Dochula Pass to take photos of the Himalayan peaks and the 108 chortens before continuing the scenic drive and ride toward Paro. Arrive in Paro by late afternoon or early evening. Followed by a farewell dinner to celebrate the completion of your cycling adventure in Bhutan, before settling in for an overnight stay in Paro

Day 06:

Paro – Taktsang Monastery Hike (3,120 m)

Drive 30 minutes to the trailhead for Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). Hike approximately 5 hours round-trip along a scenic trail lined with river-powered prayer wheels. En route, visit Drugyel Dzong (16 km from Paro), a historic fortress with panoramic views of Mount Jomolhari. Explore Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, built in 659 A.D. In the evening, enjoy an optional traditional hot-stone bath to soothe tired muscles.

Departure from Paro (2,280 m)

After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward flight. Depart Bhutan with unforgettable memories of cycling through scenic valleys, visiting sacred monasteries, experiencing Himalayan landscapes, and engaging with local culture.
